Watch and Pray!

Greetings,

Another day and more rain and cool weather, but summer’s heat and blue Colorado skies cannot be far away.  On May 24th an event in our Christian year that should heat our spirits up and rev up our souls will be here– Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit among the disciples.  As I think about the changes that occurred midst those men and women gathered in the Upper Room there in Jerusalem, I wonder about you and I and how Pentecost might affect us today.  I remember back to what Jesus said to Peter, James and John in the Garden of Gethsemane when Jesus found them sleeping while he was praying, “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Mark 14:38, Matthew 26:41, KJ & RS versions). Unfortunately, so often we are asleep spiritually.  I encourage you in your spiritual journey to be expectant about what is coming for our church and for ourselves.  Let us ‘Watch and Pray’ for what God is doing in our community, in our church and in our homes.  “Watch and Pray!”

In June, the Rocky Mountain United Methodist Church will gather at the YMCA in Estes Park for our Annual Conference.  This is a time when petitions are heard & decisions made, ordination of new clergy happens, the clergy and their spouses  who have died in the past year are remembered,  lay ministry is lifted up, great preaching is heard, ministry opportunities are shared, and new friendships made  and old friendships renewed.  Clergy and Lay Delegates will be chosen for the General Conference of our UMC which will occur in the spring of 2016.  Randy, Pat, Cody, Katie Karp, Pat Chase and Ruth Wills will all be going for those four days of June 11th – 14th.

So on Sunday, June 14th, special worship services are planned for PUMC.  The same artist who created the cross in the front of our sanctuary and the two stained glass windows that flank the altar area will be sharing with the congregation.   You do not want to miss church that morning!

May God bless each of you every day!
