Making Room for a new Advent Tradition
In each heart lies a Bethlehem, an inn where we must ultimately answer whether there is room or not. When we are Bethlehem-bound we experience our own advent in his. This Advent, let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that the Lord has made known to us. In the midst of shopping sprees let’s ponder in our hearts the Gift of Gifts. Through the tinsel, let’s look for the gold of the Christmas Star. In the excitement and confusion, in the merry chaos, let’s listen for the brush of angels’ wings. This Advent let’s go to Bethlehem and find our kneeling place.
Will You Invite Them for a Night?
Our Posadas is a new take on one of the oldest Hispanic celebrations. This Advent open your home for a night to the wandering holy family beginning on Sunday, December 1st. The figurines of Mary and Joseph will symbolically make their journey through the homes of our church members before joining the Baby Jesus at the altar on Christmas Eve. If your family would like to participate in this special Advent journey, hosting the Holy Pilgrims, please sign up on Sundays (beginning Sunday, November 24th) at the Children’s Treehouse with Noelle outside of the Sanctuary or email Noelle@ParkerUMC.org. These figurines will be part of the 6 pm Christmas Eve service.
Beginning on Sunday, December 1st, each host family will receive a packet of instructions that will guide their steps through the holy visit as well as direct them to the next night’s visitation. It will be the host family’s responsibility to make sure “Mary and Joseph” arrive at their next Posada (shelter). Each host family will receive a list of everyone who is on their Our Posada journey with them.
Will you invite them for a night? Bring this symbolic holy family into your home and shelter them on their way to the Christmas event. Make this a time of holy preparation for you, your family, your friends and your neighbors.
