Prepare the Way artwork with scripture verse Mark 1:1-3

The season of Lent (40 days leading to Easter) is the perfect time for reflection and growth.  For many, Lent is a time for repentance, prayer, study, fasting and other spiritual practices that help us focus on what God desired to do in our lives.

This year, we be taking time to read, reflect and pray as an entire congregational body.  There will be a brief Scripture passage for each day of the week starting with Ash Wednesday on February 14 and taking us all the way to the celebration of Easter on April 1st.

The plan is simple and straight forward.  It is maximized by knowing that the entire church family will be focused in the same direction each day.  Here are the three steps that we will apply to each day.

First, simply read the passage that has been designated for the day.  Then, take a few minutes (perhaps 5 minutes) to simply reflect on the passage.  Ask yourself how the passage applies to your life for that particular day and reflect on future implications for your growth as a Christian.  Finally, close your time of reflection by sharing the Lord’s Prayer.  You might consider speaking the Lord’s Prayer out loud.

If you choose to fast during Lent, let me suggest fasting from food in the tradition of the World Methodist Council.  Begin fasting after lunch on Thursday and break your fast with your evening meal on Friday.  Obviously, you can modify the pattern to meet your particular needs.

Let’s grow together and Prepare The Way for the Lord to enter deeply into our lives!
