Heifer International: A Long Reaching Mission

Sometimes in my heart, I struggle with whether or not mission work that I participate in has longevity.   Although giving food, clothes, and money can be very helpful, it is also finite in its reach, when it’s gone, it’s gone.  This is the main reason I love the Heifer International.

Heifer International is a great organization that works with communities to help end hunger and poverty and care for the earth.   By giving families a hand-up, not just a hand-out, they empower them to turn lives of hunger and poverty into self-reliance and hope. With gifts of livestock and training, Heifer International helps families improve their nutrition and generate income in sustainable ways. They refer to the animals as “living loans” because in exchange for their livestock and training, families agree to give one of its animal’s offspring to another family in need. It’s called Passing on the Gift – a cornerstone of their mission that creates an ever-expanding network of hope and peace.

During Sunday School, I will be educating children on this mission.  But, there will be brochures and information about Heifer International on the Mission Table in the Commons.  Please, stop by and give what you can for this wonderful and precious mission that helps so many with basic needs through the gift of God’s blessing to us all, His animals!

Consider, as a family, pulling up the website, and looking at the animals together.  Let them see the joy on the children’s faces when they receive an animal.  Let’s work together to give as many animals as possible this year! If you have any questions or would like more information, please call Wendy White at the church office or email her at [email protected]
