Tell Me the Stories of Jesus, UMH 277 vs. 1-3

1. Tell me the stories of Jesus I love to hear;
things I would ask him to tell me if he were here:
scenes by the wayside, tales of the sea,
stories of Jesus, tell them to me.

2. First let me hear how the children stood round his knee,
and I shall fancy his blessing resting on me;
words full of kindness, deeds full of grace,
all in the lovelight of Jesus’ face.

3. Into the city I’d follow the children’s band,
waving a branch of the palm tree high in my hand;
one of his heralds, yes, I would sing
loudest hosannas, “Jesus is King!”

Unison Prayer

O Lord, Your love has brought us together in this place.
O Lord, your love sustains us through each and every day. O Lord, keep us faithful. Strengthen us as we work with you to share a message of hope and peace. Give us the courage to be your witness always. We pray in the name of the One who comes, Christ our Savior. Amen.

Lament over the Ruin of the Country

Hear this, O elders;
    give ear, all inhabitants of the land!
Has such a thing happened in your days

Tell your children of it,
    and let your children tell their children,
    and their children another generation.

Message

People of Stories, Pastor Laura Rainwater

Psalm 78:1-7

Give ear, O my people, to my teaching;
    incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
I will open my mouth in a parable;
    I will utter dark sayings from of old,
things that we have heard and known,
    that our ancestors have told us.
We will not hide them from their children;
    we will tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the Lord and his might
    and the wonders that he has done.

He established a decree in Jacob
    and appointed a law in Israel,
which he commanded our ancestors
    to teach to their children,
that the next generation might know them,
    the children yet unborn,
and rise up and tell them to their children,
    so that they should set their hope in God,
and not forget the works of God,
    but keep his commandments;

Jesus, Thine All-Victorious Love, UMH 422, vs. 1-4

1. Jesus, thine all-victorious love
shed in my heart abroad;
then shall my feet no longer rove,
rooted and fixed in God.

2. O that in me the sacred fire
might now begin to glow;
burn up the dross of base desire
and make the mountains flow!

3. O that it now from heaven might fall
and all my sins consume!
Come, Holy Ghost, for thee I call,
Spirit of burning, come!

4. Refining fire, go through my heart,
illuminate my soul;
scatter thy life through every part
and sanctify the whole.
