PRINTABLE FORMS FOLLOW THIS INFORMATION:

In consideration of the many activities held in our building, and because the primary purpose of the building is to gather to worship God, participate in worship, give and receive instruction, initiate Mission, and enjoy Christian fellowship, it is important that we manage the use of Parker United Methodist Church with care to preserve its beauty and function.

Applications are subject to the final decision made at the discretion of the Parker United Methodist Church staff and trustees Priority for use of the church building will be given as follows:

Church groups: Regularly scheduled meetings to carry out the mission of the Parker United Methodist Church (See mission statement.)

Church related groups: Church sponsored organizations; interfaith groups, youth development groups and groups which carry out the purposes of the church.

Non-church related groups: Community service organizations, community interest groups, receptions, non-church sponsored recitals, recreation and fellowship activities, club or group meetings. Non-church related groups are required to obtain a member contact/sponsor and are required to pay a fee as listed in the fee schedule.
First priority is given to those groups within the church family. On rare occasions, church groups may need to be moved to accommodate an event of greater importance – a wedding, a funeral, etc. When this happens, alternate arrangements with the preempted group will be made.

The facilities of the church are not available for partisan purposes, for recruitment of members for clubs outside of the church, for private enterprise, or for fund raising purposes for organizations outside the church.

Policy Governing the Use of the Building

Outside groups wishing to use church space must complete a written application on forms furnished by the church office, or downloaded from the web site, at least six weeks in advance, if possible. (Church office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:300 p.m. Monday through Friday.) The primary applicant must be at least 21 years of age. A refundable security deposit of $250 is required subsequent to the application’s approval and will be returned after completion of building use, pending an inspection of the items listed on the post building-use checklist by a designated church representative. In the event of cancellations, user fees will be refunded less a 10% administrative fee. A separate refund policy is in effect for weddings. Please see the wedding application form for details.

All groups will restrict their activity to the room(s) assigned.

Non-church related groups MUST provide their own audio-visual equipment.

Each group will be held responsible for the care and condition of the space and equipment used.

All groups will perform their own general clean up and return of furnishings to their original positions. All program materials brought by the group will be removed from the space when the event is over. All trash must be removed from the building in bags/boxes and placed in waste receptacle. (Trash receptacle is located on the gravel road at the far side of the sanctuary.)

All needs must be listed on the original application form. If your needs change unexpectedly, please contact us, although we cannot guarantee that any additional requests will be honored.

The use of alcohol is not permitted on church property. Smoking is not permitted inside the building but is allowed outside the building in the designated area only.

Requests to decorate the space must be stated on the written application. No screws, nails or tacks may be used. Masking tape may ONLY be used on glass, NEVER on painted walls or woodwork.

If your application contains a request to use the kitchen facilities, a completed “KITCHEN USE POLICY” form, available on request, must accompany it.

All non-church groups using the premises must vacate the building by 10:00 p.m. Events that require janitorial services (receptions, weddings, etc.) will be subject to other time constraints requiring the group vacates the premises by 9:00 p.m. to allow sufficient time for the room to be cleaned and prepared for its regular Sunday, or other weekday use.

Any use of the church building posing a threat to the building or any person in it, or to its contents, is not permitted. The church reserves the right to require any group using the church to purchase its own event insurance for the duration of the event and provide a copy of the certificate, in a timely manner, prior to the event. In such cases, Parker United Methodist Church must be named as the additional insured.

Fee Schedule

These fees are for non-church related groups. The assessment of fees may be adjusted at the discretion of the church’s pastoral staff. A cleaning deposit of $250 will be required at the time of reservation of any of the spaces, excepting use by small groups, that will be returned upon inspection and sign off of the area used.

“READING THE BIBLE WITH JEWISH EYES— SABBOTH EXPERIENCES”

Sponsored by our Adult Education Ministry Team this extraordinary event will be held Friday evening Sept 19th and Saturday morning Sept 20 from 8:15am -12:45pm. Childcare will be offered for each session. This special treat which will be valuable for youth and adults.

Register with a return e-mail or by contacting the church office. Food will be prepared as well as a special study guide so pre-registration is essential.
The cost for one event is $10.00 or for both Friday and Saturday $15. Pre-registered persons can pay at the event.

Reading the Bible with Jewish Eyes: Sabbath Studies - September 19-20, 2008

Was Jesus a Christian? Did the Jews reject Jesus? Has the Church taken Israel’s place as the “chosen people”? Learn the answers to these questions and more in a dynamic, interactive weekend presentation with Rev. Rebekah Simon-Peter, Director of BridgeWorks. Rebekah, a United Methodist clergywoman who formerly served our church, came into Christian discipleship from the Orthodox Jewish community. An unexpected vision when she was 29 years old prompted her to discover more about the Jewish Jesus.

The special weekend will begin with a Sabbath experience, Friday September 19, from 6:45-9 pm. Rebekah will lead us in ushering in the Jewish Sabbath with ancient blessings over the light, cup and bread. Singing, dancing, and stories will enrich our Sabbath. Finally, discussion about Jewish-Christian relations will round out the evening.

Saturday September 20 Rebekah will lead us in an in-depth Bible study, so be sure to bring yours with you. These biblically-grounded, thought-provoking studies enable believers to integrate the Jewishness of Jesus so that the Bible, the Person, and His People come alive anew,” Rebekah explains.

Customized study guides will be provided for Saturday morning’s study. To register or for more information, call the Church Office at 303 841-3979.

Grace and Peace,
Rev. Doug McKinney

As I mentioned in the sermon on Feb. 25th, Kathleen Flood has come up with a way to observe the 7 offices of prayer during the day from the Benedictines in a way that is possible when you do not live in a monastery. The purpose of these is to bring us back into contact and conversation with God throughout the day. The Latin name for the office is followed by the times. Click here for the 7 offices and the times.
You might try this out over Lent. Also you might try the empty chair that I mentioned. Let me know if either helps your prayer life.

Grace and peace,

A Young Adult Ministry for 20-30 Year Old Men and Women!

The GAP is a safe place for young adults to gather for open fellowship and discussion regardless of beliefs and values. It is a place in which we as young adults grow and guide one another in our spiritual journey. All are welcome to join us Sunday mornings for peer lead discussion and study at 9:30 am in Pastor Mike's Office (Rm. 205). Food and safe conversation is always provided. We also gather once a month for evening outs on the town, in which we just go an have some fun as a group of young adults.

Worship Services TimesOur 8:00 am Worship uses a traditional liturgy with traditional hymns and music led by the Good News Choir to help us center our worship experience. Children are encouraged to participate in the Children's Church after the Children's Sermon during this service. Our 9:30 am Worship is more informal with the same hymns as the 8:15 and fewer parts of the regular United Methodist liturgy. This worship has a variety of musical styles led by our largest choir, The Chorale. Our 11:00 am Worship is a contemporary service experience led by a praise band singing lots of celebration music.

In all three services the sermon is based on the same scriptures with a slight variation in style. We hope you will find that one of these three services enhances your sense of God's presence as you worship.

I am so thankful to be the director of the Children's Choir and Joyful Noise at PUMC!

The children's energy and joy bring an amazing spirit to our church and I feel blessed to be a part of it.

Joyful Noise is open to all children and focuses on teaching our children the love of God through music and performance. We sing once a month for the church congregation and also produce two musicals a year.

We would love to have your children join us and experience the delight of singing with such a fabulous group of children!

It has been one of my greatest joys in life to be able to direct, teach, and spread the Word of God through music with our five octaves of hand bells and three octaves of hand chimes.
Moving here nine years ago from Massachusetts was a blessing and finding a wonderful church with great outreach programs and a steady flow of other programs really completed my quest. I have been involved with hand bells for 29 years- playing, teaching, and now directing! There is nothing quite like the sound of bells ringing through the air on Christmas Eve as we sing Silent Night. What a way to complete your worship experience. It's like frosting on a cake if you ask me!
For my "real job", I work as a Real Estate Broker and have a lovely home in Rowley Downs in Parker with my husband Ron. Ron and I have known each other since the 6th grade. I keep quite active riding a motorcylce or a bike, skiing, quilting, and completing many craft projects. I am always working on one project or another. My only daughter, Monique, is a grown adult working as a banker with Wells Fargo and is currently a student in college pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Between our two households, we enjoy three cats- Star, BoJangles, and Jinxy.
Our bell group welcomes anyone who shares our love of bell music to join our wonderfully open and dedicated group of "ding-a-lings". We guarantee loads of laughs. We are not perfect, but we love and fully enjoy our fellowship and music. Don't hesitate to give us a try......we would LOVE to have you!

Little Blessings Preschool & KindergartenCommitted to educating, inspiring and caring for God's childrenA Christian early childhood experiencePlease call or email Shauna Barker, Director or Shannon Redden, Office Manager with any questions, 303.841.3979, shauna@parkerumc.org, shannon@parkerumc.org.The August/September Newsletter is available by clicking here.

The mission of Little Blessings Preschool & Kindergarten is to work cooperatively with families to facilitate a program that will create a solid educational foundation for young children. It is our mission to help preschoolers grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, spiritually and physically through hands-on learning experiences that meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of each child.

Our educational philosophy reflects the basic concept that God created each individual with unique gifts. It is our responsibility as teachers to help each child realize his/her potential through guidance, encouragement and Christian love. Our preschool curriculum is designed to instill in our children Christian values through Bible lessons, prayers, Christian songs and social relationships. A new theme is introduced each month and units are built around the theme. This will give the children a variety of experiences using small and large motor skills, music and movement, arts and crafts, academic centers, free play, stories and self-expression. The variety of sessions promotes progressive learning experiences beginning with a first preschool encounter for the 18 month old through our private Kindergarten. Our school is licensed by the State of Colorado. Our policies, procedures and schedules meet State requirements. Our school is also inspected by the Health and Fire Departments and meets all local and state requirements and regulations.

Rev. Douglas W. McKinney

I began serving this great church in Sept 2001 and have enjoyed most of all helping develop people. With some new to the whole experience with God, and others somewhere along the journey-- i get a kick out of seeing each person grasp a new idea, see God at work in a new way, and growing in their understanding of how God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit interact with them on their daily walk.

I've served churches in Colorado Springs; Palm Beach Gardens, Fl; Wichita, KS; Oklahoma City, OK, and Rogers AR; I've cherished those sacred and holy moments where we experience God such as the birth of a chid, through an illness, in a wedding, or at the death of someone we love. I thrive on the encounters where we experience God in the outdoors at a retreat or field trip, or indoors in a class or seminar.

The people of Parker UMC are always ready for a new adventure, ready to learn, grow and seek God in new ways. It's a great place to serve.

My wife Lynette, is an elementary music teacher in Colorado Springs. We have two son's, Andy who works with Big Brothers, Big Sisters in Wichita, Ks, and Chris who is a Student at Colorado State University.

Rev. Kerry McCormick

Greetings! I am your Associate Pastor, Kerry McCormick, covering the Children's Ministry, Small Groups, Caring Connections and Stephen Ministry. I am a Colorado native. I did my undergraduate work at CU-Boulder and my graduate degree at Iliff School of Theology in Denver. I am married to Mike and between us we have four children: Melissa (22), Ian (19), Chris (18) and Emily (16). We have a couple of dogs: Jack and Hannah. We enjoy camping, hiking and fishing, skiing, traveling, golf, swimming and lots of other outdoor activities. I have served the First UMC of Platteville as a solo pastor since 2002. Mike works for the Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in Centennial.

I am passionate about Christian Education as a way to build good habits of active daily discipleship. I love teaching and working with other life-long learners. I believe the fellowship that comes out of the learning environment sustains our faith in ways worship alone cannot because we are all seeking a place to know others and be known. I know there is a strong education department within Parker church and I am anxious to discover ways I can be supportive of the good work already taking place.

After having spent almost 40 years in the corporate world, I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve God and the people of Parker United Methodist Church as Office Manager. I started in this position in October of 2005.

For those of you who don't know me, I grew up in Southern California - living in Anaheim until 1990 when I moved to Georgia at the request of AT&T, my employer for those 40 years. In 1998, AT&T moved me here to Colorado and I am glad to be here. I retired from AT&T in 2001, and then spent 3 years as a Project Manager and Consultant for AT&T Labs.

I have been a member of Parker UMC for going on 2 years. I am currently the Co-Chair of our Hospitality & Outreach Ministry (we call it HO HO), and am on the Prayer Ministry Team and the Small Group Ministry Team. I had the wonderful opportunity to take Disciple I in 2005 so I am taking Disciple II this year. I live in the Pinery with my 2 kitties, Rosie and Wiggles.

Stop by the office at Parker UMC anytime and say hello. I hope you feel God's presence here in the office and in all the ministries of Parker UMC. And if you would like to volunteer your time, we ALWAYS have stuff to do!!

God's peace and blessings to you always.

Rev. Teri Todd

What a joy to serve in this congregation. We are truly blessed with creative, energetic, compassionate, deeply spiritual servants of Christ. I am awed by all we can accomplish when we come together with God at the center. I have worked in several careers over my lifetime, but I have never felt as "at home" in my work as I do now. My own strengths lie within the spiritual disciplines of study, prayer and meditation. I am humbled to serve with others who share that passion, and to learn from those whose gifts are in different arenas.

I became a Parker resident in 1986. Though we moved away for a while, when the time came, we returned to the no-longer-little town not-quite-on the prairie. I now share my home with my daughter, two dogs and three cats.

My wife, Ti(pronounced TEE), and I have really enjoyed serving here since we arrived June 1, 2000. There are so many dedicated and loving people who come together to minister in the name of our Lord here in Parker and around the world. We have people involved in Parker Task Force and Food bank and people who are involved in ministry on the other side of the world in Cambodia. I have served churches in Michigan and Arizona and have been the president of one of our United Methodist seminaries. Being a pastor at Parker UMC is one of the most rewarding ministries of my life. I hope you will join us for prayer, worship, and service here at Parker UMC.

I am very pleased to be part of the staff at Parker UMC and I look forward to meeting you and your family as the office serves you through our work for the Lord. My husband Ed and I have been members for 21 years and we are amazed at the growth and the many opportunities for people moving to the Parker area. We lived in Parker for 16+ years in the Pinery, and about five years ago we bought some acreage out on the eastern plains in Kiowa. There we operate a small cattle business and have recently added some miniature herefords to our herd.

I hope that you will find Parker UMC a welcoming place for you to worship ,enrich your faith walk, and grow through the many programs offered here. If there is any way that the office can assist you, please don't hesitate to stop by or give us a call.

STEPHEN MINISTRY PROGRAM - Stephen Minister Ministry Team

STEPHEN MINISTRY

The Stephen Ministry is a confidential, lay-caring ministry grounded in Jesus' command to love one another. Those who are hurting receive love and support through one-to-one caring relationships. The ministry is named after Stephen, one of the first deacons in the early Christian church, commissioned by the apostles to care for the needs of people in the Christian community.
•	Is life more than you can handle alone right now?
•	Is your health, your attitude, or your relationships suffering?
•	Are you adjusting to a new job, change in marital status, a serious illness, the death of a loved one, or a recent move?
•	Would you like to have someone in your life that really cares?
Everyone goes through difficult times. Having someone to care, to listen, and to share God's love can help you get through the confusion, stress, or loneliness that you may be experiencing.

WHAT ARE THE NEEDS WITH WHICH STEPHEN MINISTRY CAN HELP?
•	Illness
•	Family frustrations and challenges
•	Loneliness
•	Chronic illness
•	Families of the chronically ill
•	Loss of a loved one
•	Separation or divorce
•	Being shut-in
•	Having a newborn
•	A low self-esteem
•	Terminal illness
•	Loss of a job
•	Financial setbacks
•	Struggling with faith in God
•	Aging
•	Facing life changes
•	Retirement
•	Miscarriage and Infertility

HOW CAN I REFER SOMEONE TO STEPHEN MINISTRY?

1.	Identify someone who is hurting and in need of Christian care (you, a friend, or a relative).
2.	You, a friend, a relative, or a pastor contacts Stephen Ministry about this need.
3.	The Referral Coordinators will meet with this person to talk about Stephen Ministry.
4.	With their permission, the Referral Coordinators assign a Stephen Minister to meet on a weekly basis with the care receiver.
5.	The Stephen Minister provides distinctively Christian and strictly confidential care.

WHAT IS A STEPHEN MINISTER?

A Stephen Minister...
•	Is a child of God who walks beside a person who is hurting.
•	Is a caring, Christian friend who takes the time to really listen.
•	Is a lay Christian selected, trained, and supervised by Stephen Leaders to provide effective Christian care.
•	Makes a commitment including 50 hours of training, ongoing supervisory meetings, and an average of one 1-hour visit per week with the person receiving care.
•	Recognizes this as a confidential ministry.

A Stephen Minister is NOT...
•	A counselor or therapist
•	A problem-solver
•	A casual visitor

HOW CAN YOU BECOME INVOLVED?
•	Pray daily for Stephen Ministry
•	Make referrals to Stephen Ministry
•	Inquire about becoming a Stephen Minister
Stephen Ministers are Caregivers ... God is the CUREGIVER
